BOTOX®
Botox® is known for its ability to smooth wrinkles and turn back the hands of time on aging, however, it is also a proven and effective treatment for pain and muscle-related conditions such as debilitating headaches, migraines, spasticity and other pain disorders. Injections are given in our office with a small needle and typically take less than 20 minutes.
CARPAL TUNNEL INJECTIONS
For those suffering from wrist pain, carpal tunnel injections can be a very effective pain management treatment. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway on the palmer side of your wrist. Certain movements can put pressure on the median nerve, causing severe to moderate pain and discomfort. Once determined this is your cause, carpal injetions can be diagnosed and treated by Dr. Wilson in our Lousiville pain management office.
EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTIONS (ESI)
An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is an injection of anti-inflammatory medicine — a steroid or corticosteroid — into the space around your spinal nerves known as the epidural space to treat pain caused by irritation and inflammation of spinal nerve roots. It is a very common procedure when a patient is experiencing chronic lower back pain is a proven method in helping to relieve patients of the pain. At the Pain & Wellness Institute, Dr. Wilson and our expert team take great care to administer an ESI injection as comfortably as possible in our spa-like office setting.
LOCAL ANESTHETIC SYMPATHIC NERVE BLOCKS
Based on where your pain is located, our advanced pain management clinic offers sympathetic nerve blocks for celiac (pain in your abdomen), lumbar (pain in your legs or feet), and stellate (pain in your arms or hands).
MEDIAL BRANCH BLOCKS (MBB)
A medial branch block is an interventional treatment that can be used to determine whether or not a specific facet joint is the source of spine pain. The procedure involves injecting an anesthetic near small medial nerves connected to a specific facet joint, using fluoroscopy to guide the injection. If the patient experiences significant pain relief immediately after the injection, then the facet joint is determined to be the source of the patient’s pain. At this point, a subsequent procedure called a medial branch radiofrequency ablation may be considered for longer-term pain relief.
OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCKS
The occipital nerve is responsible for most of the feeling you get in the back and top of your head. When this nerve is irritated or inflamed, headaches may occur. An occipital nerve block is performed by our highly-trained team to relieve patients of pain from chronic headaches, head tension and migraines.
PERIPHERAL NERVE BLOCKS
Peripheral nerve blocks, or neural blockades, are procedures that can help manage many different types of pain. They are often injections of medicines that block the pain from specific nerves. Nerve blocks require needles, often along with a fluoroscope, ultrasound, or CT scan to properly guide the needle. The needles and guided images are used to inject pain-relieving or anti-inflammatory drugs around a nerve or group of nerves.
RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION (RFA)
In some types of chronic pain, radiofrequency ablation can disable nerve fibers that are carrying the pain signal through the spinal cord to the brain. In the right patients, about 70% of RFA procedures provide pain relief that lasts for a year or more. The technique may be useful for some people living with chronic arthritis or degenerative back and neck problems.
SACROILIAC + OTHER MAJOR JOINT INJECTIONS
A sacroiliac joint injection is used to diagnose or treat lower back pain that comes from your sacroiliac joint. The Pain & Wellness Insititute also perofrms this injection at other major joints including hips, shoulders and knees.
SELECTIVE NERVE ROOT INJECTIONS
Selective nerve root block injections are used to deliver medication to an inflamed nerve root that exists within the spinal cord, alleviating your back pain. SNRI may also be used to diagnose the source of pain and treat pain caused by spinal cord inflammation.
SMALL JOINT INJECTIONS
Injections are safely performed in the Pain & Wellness Institute office on small joints including elbows, feet and ankle to alleviate your pain identified in these joint sources.
SPINAL CORD STIMULATION (SCS)
Spinal cord stimulation (another term for this is neuromodulation) uses a mild electrical current to stimulate certain nerve fibers in your spinal cord. That current acts like another call is using the phone line, which keeps pain signals from reaching your brain. Spinal cord stimulation is used most often after nonsurgical pain treatment options have failed to provide sufficient relief. Spinal cord stimulators require two procedures to test and implant the device: the trial and the implantation. Spinal cord stimulation can improve the overall quality of life and sleep, and reduce the need for pain medicines. It is typically used along with other pain management treatments.
TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS
This treatment helps ease the pain from tight knots of muscles that fail to relax. Trigger point injections are a pain management treatment performed at the Pain & Wellness Institute office. The procedure involves injecting a local anesthetic, sometimes combined with a steroid medication, into a trigger point to relax muscles and relieve pain.
